We have had a number of neighbours complain about the parking situation in the back of our school – Kelmsley and Harrison, and about speeding on Thompson, in front of the school. Some have complained to the RCMP about this issue.
We note that they had some valid points:
1 – PLEASE abide by the SPEED LIMITS. We remind you that Thompson Avenue is a residential street, and does not have sidewalks along its entire length. Pedestrians will be on the street. Use caution, and keep your speed moderate.
Schools and playgrounds
(1) A person driving a vehicle on a regular school day and on a highway where signs are displayed stating a speed limit of 30 km/h, or on which the numerals “30” are prominently shown, must drive at a rate of speed not exceeding 30 km/h while approaching or passing the school building and school grounds to which the signs relate, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or subject to subsection (1.1), between any extended times that are stated on the signs.
(1.1) Extended hours under subsection (1) may not begin later than 8 a.m. or end earlier than 5 p.m.
The description adjacent to the applicable sign in Division 23 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulation 26/58 is also being amended to provide for extended hours of operation.
2 – ILLEGAL PARKING – please ONLY PARK – where there is designated space i.e. NOT in the bus zone or very close to the end of corner – you must be 3 meters from the corner. Park along our grassy field.
3 – PLEASE be respectful of the neighbors.
I thank-you for your help in this matter!
